Scare LA: The Haunted Mansion turns 45
On August 9, 2014, DoomBuggies.com founder Jeff Baham hosted a panel discussion in honor of the Haunted Mansion's 45th anniversary at the ScareLA convention, held in downtown Los Angeles. Joining Baham onstage in front of a standing-room-only crowd of 500 attendees were Disney Legend Bob Gurr, who created the conveyance system known as the Omnimover (but more commonly known to Haunted Mansion fans as the "Doom Buggy"), and Disney Legend Alice Davis, who was married to the late Marc Davis, one of Walt Disney's Nine Old Men of animation and a WED Imagineer who developed many of the set pieces for some of the finest attractions at the Disney theme parks.
Alice spoke at length about Marc, and his inspirations and motivation, while Bob told stories about working for Walt and creating the carriages that would take guests on their tour through the Haunted Mansion. The panel discussion also featured many rarely- or never-seen pieces of concept art that Marc Davis created for the Haunted Mansion attraction. You can view the entire presentation below. Enjoy!
